Veterinarians can enter many different careers in just about any situation where food safety and animal health are a concern. In private practice, companion animal veterinarians Doctors Michael and Kevin McAllister are concerned with the health of pets throughout their life.
In order to provide a healthy start for young animals we provide preventative medicine through the use of vaccinations, wormings, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, and neutering. Throughout their adult life, yearly physical examinations are essential in picking up conditions early on, when treatment is more succcessfull. Immunizations are recommended to keep infectious disease at bay. We customise our vaccination protocol depending on the exposure risk of each individual pet. Dental exams and prophylaxis are also imortant to ensure healthy teeth for the life of the animal. As pets age, chronic conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and organ failure become a concern. Therefore, we recommend physical exams 2 to 3 times yearly, because early treatment yields better results.
A veterinarian only sees a pet for a brief period of time. While we can gain a lot of information with exams and diagnostics, it is usually the pet owner that first notices when a pet is not feeling well. Through client education we can help owners recognize signs of disease early. Treatment is usually more successful when conditions are noticed early in the course of disease. As a result, the animal recovers sooner and treatment costs are reduced. The goal of our veterinarians is to offer the best medical care possible for companion animals. We feel that through preventive medicine, early detection of disease, and client education this goal is easily achieved.
